Brief Description: Virgina Clarke was the head of the library at the Laboratory School at the University of North Texas.  This collection contains her publications (her thesis and printed material  reflecting her work in library service and the development of audio/visual materials in library), photographs, and information on her career.

Biographical Note for Virginia Clarke (1907 - 1997) :

Virginia Clarke (1907 – 1997) received her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from North Texas State College, now known as the University of North Texas. Ms. Clarke served as a teacher and librarian in her hometown of Albany, Texas before joining UNT.  She served as the librarian for the Laboratory School at UNT from 1946 to 1970.  The Laboratory School was a teaching facility for students perusing a career in teaching.  It contained classes for students from kindergarten to twelfth grade.  In 1970, Ms. Clarke resigned as librarian with the Laboratory School to accept a position with the Tarrant County Junior College in Fort Worth. Ms. Clarke was named a UNT Distinguished Alumni in 1986.  This award honored her for her years of service as a librarian, her leadership in developing and promoting audiovisual collections in school libraries, and her work as a consultant for school libraries in Texas and Oklahoma.
