Brief Description:

The collection consists of five boxes, containing materials from Duke's years at North Texas State Teacher's College, numerous photos from his overseas deployment in the Second World War and from his time as a working musician in the post-war years, and materials related to his career as a writer (including the novel Sideman), and his work with the General Dynamics Corporation, and the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles.

Highlights of the collection include the photo albums, and a film reel of the General Dynamics promotional film, Champion of Champions, which starred Jimmy Stewart. The collection also contains a copy of the script annotated and autographed by Stewart.

Biographical Note for Duke, Osborn (1924-1999) : Musician and writer Osborn Duke attended North Texas State Teachers College from 1941 until 1942. His diverse creative activities, which included playing trombone as a sideman with the Bobby Byrne and Sammy Kaye big bands, publishing short stories and a novel, and writing screenplays, are represented by the materials that comprise the Osborn Duke Collection at the University of North Texas Music Library.
