Scope and Contents: President Bruce was born in 1856 and died in 1943. He is most noted for raising the standards for instruction, phasing out the three year degree NT had been granting for a four year bachelor's degree. He put the word "teachers" in the name of Texas normal Schools. Eight buildings were constructed while he was president (among them were the President's House, Library [now Curry Hall], Science Building, Manual Arts Building, and the Education Building). He was the author of mathematics text books.
