The Gordon Knox Film Collection contains over 100 documentary films of the 1940's and 1950's in 16mm and 35mm formats, created by Texas-born filmmaker Gordon Knox (1906 – 1992) or Mr. Knox’s production company, The Princeton Film Archives.

The Gordon Knox Film Collection contains over 100 films created by Texas-born filmmaker Gordon Knox (1906 – 1992) or Mr. Knox’s production company, The Princeton Film Archives. The collection contains short and feature-length documentaries produced between 1937 and 1964 for the United States Armed Forces, state and federal government agencies, non-profit organizations and private sector clients. Currently, 67 films in the Gordon Knox Collection are available through the UNT Digital Library along with related still photographs showing film crews and staff working on location. The remaining 35mm films are housed at the UNT Media Library, along with physical copies of the 67 16mm films that are can be viewed through the UNT Digital Library, and a 35mm still camera with its accessories.

Gordon Knox is a film producer who has helped to create several hundred documentary films for state and federal government agencies, non-profit organizations and private sector clients.

He was born on May 10, 1906 in Greenville, Texas.  He grew up in Kansas City, Missouri and attended the University of Missouri. His motion picture career began with Warner Brothers Pictures, where he was a regional sales representative in the Kansas-Missouri region for two years. He then joined Walter Wanger Productions in Hollywood as an assistant to Wanger; this position gave Knox a thorough schooling in film production. In 1940 Knox joined the American Film Center in New York City where he produced numerous films in conjunction with the U. S. State Department.

Knox formed the Princeton Film Center in Princeton, New Jersey in 1941, a film production company with whom he produced a wide array of documentary films, both privately sponsored as well as sponsored by government entities such as the CIAA, the Office of War Information, and the Institute of Pacific Relations.

In 1954 Knox produced a television series on the U. S. Marines with Martin Jones and Henry Olmstead. In the early 1960s, Knox joined Chet Huntley, co-anchor of the NBC Huntley-Brinkley Report, to produce informational films for television and supplementary distribution.   In 1968 Mr. Knox established a New Mexico Corporation, SKS Productions, with Jack Schaefer, but SKS did not produce any films.

Films produced by Knox received awards and recognition from the National 16mm Victory Film Committee, Film Council of Greater Boston, New York Film Council, New Jersey State Council on the Arts, Cleveland Film Assembly and others.

Gordon Knox died on March 5, 1992.
