Abstract

This collection includes a diary of Connie Ford McCann that he wrote while serving in the CCC, a transcript of the diary, a CCC discharge certificate, a letter of recommendation, scanned childhood photos of McCann, a CD with photos of McCann (1923-1933), newspaper clippings about McCann, a CCC publication, correspondence with J.B. Braziel, a biography of McCann, and photographs McCann took while he was in the CCC (c.1933/1934).

Scope and Contents of the Materials

Connie Ford McCann (1914-1998) joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in May of 1933.  He served two six-month tours with the CCC and was discharged in June of 1934.  While he worked for the CCC he kept a diary and took photographs which are available in this collection.

Collection Historical Note

The Civilian Conservation Corps was a New Deal public work relief program in the U.S. that operated from 1933 to 1942 for unemployed, unmarried men ages 18-25.  It provided jobs related to natural resouce conservation and development of government owned lands.

Last is an undated postcard from J.B. Braziel to C.F. McCann on which Braziel wrote about his "Texas CCC Exhibit" at the Fort Croghan Museum.

The original photographs are in Box # 2535 B and the two negatives are in folder 73 of this box (#2534).
