Abstract

Papers of History Department faculty member J. B. Smallwood.

Scope and Contents of the Materials

Dr. J.B. Smallwood, Jr. was a faculty member of the Department of History, 1964-2000.  Included in the 2 boxes are maps, travel brochures, and lodging guides for the state of Texas and the surrounding states and Mexico.  Also included are maps for Japan.

Biographical Note

Dr. J. B. Smallwood, Jr.  was a faculty member of the Department of History from 1964 to 2000.  He specialized in economic history.  He was also interested in conservation and the environment.  He contributed to or wrote Texas Country and Water in the West. As a professor he taught classes on the New South and environmental awareness.

Smallwood lived in Japan from 1960 – 1964.  In 1970 he led a group of Denton, Texas citizens to Japan for the “Japan World Exposition.”

J. B. Smallwood earned his B.A. and M.A. at the University of North Texas and his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina.
