A collection of documents, photographs, and personal papers that were donated to the former museum on the University of North Texas campus that was known as the Historical Collection.  The collections have various donors.

Scope and Contents of the Materials

The materials that are held include photographic prints and negatives, artifacts, business and organizational records, papers from university alumni, university and school organizations documents, and items of general historical interest.

The Memorial Tower was the first design for a union building for the University of North Texas campus.  O'Neil Ford designed the structure and a  campaign was launched to raise money to build it.  Due to the Depression the money was never raised and the structure was never built. This file contains brochures, a pledge card, correspondence, lists, and a letter concerning the dedication of the first union built on the North Texas campus.

A second letter to Dr. Bruce from R. Mahan mentions a second check. The last letter is from Joseph Wondrash, the County of Burleson County Clerk, confirming that W. H. Hundley is his deputy. This document dates to 1913.

Item 1: South Western Christian College, Denton, Texas, 1908Add to your cart.
The card was sent to Mr. Tate Foster of Canton, Texas by Maud.  The school was founded under the name of John B. Denton College in 1901. The institution was unable to compete with two state colleges (the University of North Texas and Texas Woman's University) and in 1904 it was deeded to the Church of Christ. It opperated as South Western Christian College until 1908 when it was reorganized as a university.  At that time its name changed to Southland University. It would close in 1909.

Annie Webb Blanton was an instructor at the North Texas Normal School (now the University of North Texas) from 1901-1918..  She later became the Superintendent of Texas Public Instruction(1918). She would serve two term. She was the author of a grammar textbooks. Ms. Blanton was also a faculty member of the University of Texas at Austin. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Texas at Austin.  She earned her Ph.D form from Cornell University.
