Ben H. Wooten was born Dec. 21, 1894 on a small east Texas farm near Timpson, Tx.  He was graduated from North Texas State University.  He served in the Army for two years as a machine gun officer in France and Germany, returning home in 1919. Later that year, he married Margaret Kay.

He started his banking career in 1919 as an assistant cashier at Alba National Bank in Alba, TX.  He worked his way to multiple other positions including the following:  State Bank Examiner in 1926, Departmental Examiner in 1927, President of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Little Rock in 1933, and President of First National Bank in Dallas in 1950.  His last position was as Chairman of the board of Dallas Federal Savings and Loan Association which he was elected to in 1963.

The following are examples of his business and civic services:  He served as President of the Dallas Chamber of Commerce and as President of the National Bank Division of the Amercian Bankers Association.  He served as Chairman of the Board of Regents of North Texas State University and as a trustee of Baylor University.  He was member of the Board of Governors of USO and Civilian aid at large to the Secretary of the Army.  He served as Vice President of the American Bible Association and Director of the Baptist Foundation of Texas.  He recieved many tributes for his business and civic servies incluing the Linz award, being named Dallas "Headlliner of the Year" for 1952, and held honorary degrees from four universities.

Ben H. Wooten died on Nov. 22, 1971 in Dallas, TX.

The Board of Regents records comprise the records for the University's governing Board from 1911 - 2004.  Series 1 includes 29 boxes of records dated 1911 - 2002.  This series encompasses six boxes of records for the State Normal Colleges board from 1911 - 1949 and 23 boxes of records for the independent University board from 1950 - 2002. Series 2 includes three boxes for the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, 1975 - 1990.  Series 3 includes two boxes for the Health Science Center, 1990 - 2002.  Series 4 includes 1 box of records for the University of North Texas System for 2002 - 2004.
