Biographical Note for Headley, Herrold Eugene (1919-2014) : Dr. Herrold Headley was born to Ross W. and Pearl B. Headley on January 22, 1919 in Athens, Ohio. He earned his bachelor’s degree in music from Ohio State University. He received a master’s at Indiana University. His doctorate in musicology was received on January 27, 1959 at North Texas State University (now the University of North Texas). His dissertation was The Choral Works of Arthur Honegger. He held academic positions at the University of Arkansas and Southern Illinois University. He was the head of music at the University of Maine from 1963 to 1967. An avid sailor, he edited The Primer of Navigation [W. W. Norton, 1995]. He died in 2014
