Brief Description:

The papers in this collection document the work on The Dallas Cowboys and the NFL, a book Dr. Chipman wrote with Dr. Randolph Campbell and Dr. Robert Calvert. This material contains drafts, notes, articles, brochures, clippings, correspondence, galley sheets, interviews, and statistics.

There are also papers that document Dr. Chipman's research on Spanish Texas. His Spanish material consists of Spanish records microfilm and prints from microfilm, which document materials that date from the 1530s.

Biographical Note for Chipman, Donald E. : Donald E. Chipman received a bachelor of arts and a master's degrees from Fort Hays Kansas State College.  He earned his Ph.D from the University of New Mexico.  Donald Eugene Chipman began his work at the University of North Texas as an associate professor of history in 1965.  He received the title of full professor in 1968. Dr. Chipman retired during the 2000-2001 school year. Dr. Chipman published the following papers and books concerning his Spanish research: Texas en la Epoca Colonia; Nuno de Guzman and the Province of Panuco in New Spain, 1518-1533; Spanish Texas, 1519-1821; Moctezuma’s Children: Aztec Royalty Under Spanish Rule, 1520-1700; Álvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca: The Great Pedestrian of North and South America. He wrote the following with co-authors: Notable Men and Women of Spanish Texas; and Explorers and Settlers of Spanish Texas. Dr. Chipman, Dr. Robert Calvert, and Dr. Randolph Campbell wrote The Dallas Cowboys and the NFL. He was named an emeritus faculty member after retirement. In 2003 King Juan Carlos I of Spain recognized his research in Spanish America and appointed him as a Knight of the Royal Order of Isabel the Catholic, the highest honor that can be accorded a non-Spaniard.
