Tulia and Memphis, Texas are both located in the panhandle of the state. Brady sits further south in central Texas and is self-named "The Heart of Texas" for its location as the near-geographical center of the state. All three towns have populations under 6,000 and had a focus on local farming during the time the materials cover, as well as an emphasis on church life and supporting local businesses.
Dr. John Angus MacMillan was born in Nova Scotia, Canada, on April 22, 1884, 1885, or 1886. On Mary 30, 1913, he married Nellie Maud Roseboom, of Ohio, USA. They had a son, Russell B. MacMillan. By 1908 Dr. MacMillan had officially emigrated to the United States, and he eventually became minister of the Presbyterian Church in Brady, Texas. He passed away on December 5, 1949, in San Antonio, Texas.

Scope and Contents: Materials in this collection come from three towns in Texas: Tulia, Brady, and Memphis. These include correspondence, printed items, local newspaper clippings, publications, postcards, photos, and yearbooks. A large portion belong to or focus on Dr. John MacMillan, a church pastor in Brady, Texas, as well as on general church happenings and local events, such as high school graduations, town performances, and business updates.
