Horace Rhea Brock was born August 26 1927 in Leggett, Texas, to Hobby B. and Winona (Epperson) Brock. He graduated from Leggett High School at the age of 15. He earned a degree in physics from Sam Houston State University at age 18. He served in the United States Air Force, 1946-1949. He then attended to Sam Houston State Teacher’s College, graduating with a bachelors and masters degrees in business administration in 1951 and a Ph.D. in accounting from the University of Texas in 1954. He started his career at the University of Arkansas. He then joined North Texas State College, now known as the University of North Texas. He married Euline Williams, and instructor in English, in 1955. From 1967-1969 the Brock family lived in Istanbul, Turkey. Dr. Brock was employed with the United States Agency for International Development. The family returned to Denton, where Dr. Brock went on to serve as department chair, dean of the College of Business Administration, and director of the Chief Executives Round Table. He was part of the creation of the Professional Development Institute, founder of the Institute of Petroleum Accounting at UNT, and president of the Council of petroleum Accountants Societies. He was active in the community, serving on the boards of the Denton County Friends of the Family, Denton Humanitarian Association, and the Greater Denton Arts Council, among others. He received numerous awards, such as the Green Glory and Wings of Eagles Awards, UNT Alumni Association, President’s Award from the Denton County NAACP, and a Community Arts Recognition Award. He died October 26, 2019.
