Formed in 1980, the Oak Lawn Symphonic Band is a non-profit musical organization that promotes the acceptance and support of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Allies (LGBTA) community particularly within Dallas and Texas in general. “As such, we provide a welcoming and supportive environment for performers regardless of gender identity, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and musical ability.” The Oak Lawn Symphonic Band has performed at countless venues, parades, and events including: the inauguration ceremonies for Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, the Gay Games, and the March on Washington.
As of November 2017, the Oak Lawn Symphonic Band rehearses every Monday evening from 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Oak Lawn United Methodist Church and welcomes new members.

This collection is arranged into folders and items; a narrow tray sits at the top of the box and houses the smaller items in the collection while larger items are housed below.
Contents within this collection may provide insight into some of the events, concerts, and overall style of the Oak Lawn Symphonic Band from the early 80s to the mid 90s. Included photographs depict several band members in marching action while pamphlets and brochures describe and detail various concerts and musical activities the band participated in. T-shirts and button pins offer a tangible link to the band's history.
