Scope and Contents of the Materials

Papers, 1940-1945 of the War Labor Board concerning job classification, wage rates, labor disputes and arbitration with both general and case files containing agreements (Union contracts), arbitration rules and regulations, individual case exhibits and findings correspondence (general and case related), individual industry data, memos, miscellaneous materials, notes, and press releases involving cases 8-D-1 through 8-D539 (coverage incomplete).

Collection Historical Note

Geographical areas include Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas. The War Labor Board was created by President Roosevelt, by executive order on January 12, 1942. The War Labor Board was established to determine procedures for settling disputes that might affect war production.
