Abstract

This collection contains historic newspapers published in Denton County, Texas from 1892 to 1911.

Scope and Contents of the Materials

This collection contains issues of the following historic newspapers from Denton County, Texas: Denton County News, Denton County Record, Denton Evening News, Denton Monitor, Legal Tender, and Record & Chronicle (Denton).

Collection Historical Note

The Denton Monitor appeared in 1868.

The Denton Chronicle was founded in 1882, followed by the Denton County Record in 1898. In 1899, the Chronicle and Record were consolidated as the Denton Record and Chronicle. In 1915, the "and" was dropped and the Record-Chronicle was published as Denton County's only daily newspaper through the 2000s.

In Sanger, located in north central Denton County, Charles W. Geers (1840–1921) published Legal Tender in addition to several other papers.
