Scope and Contents of the Materials

The Melody Specht Kelly Collection contains 20 boxes of state, institutional, and library-related documents such as memos, e-mails, correspondence, research articles, drafts of proposals, meeting agendas, institutional publications, committee reports, newspapers, and artifacts. The collection ranges from years 1974-2009.

Biographical Note

Melody Specht Kelly is an alumna of North Texas State University, graduating with a Bachelor's degree in 1970. Throughout her undergraduate career, Melody Kelly was an active member of the Delta Zeta sorority. She received her Masters of Science in 1973, and a Masters of Art in 1976.

Kelly began her employment at the University of North Texas in 1974. From 1974 to 1982, Melody Kelly served as the Assistant Social Sciences Librarian, otherwise known as the Documents Cataloger. In 1982, Kelly was promoted to the Assistant Government Documents Librarian where she stayed until 1985 when she became the full Documents Librarian. In 1986, Kelly took a position as the Head of the Government Documents Department. Around 2001, Melody Kelly became the Associate Dean of the UNT Libraries until 2009 when she ended her tenure.

Throughout her extensive career, Melody Kelly has published work in several publications as well as attended many workshops, seminars, and conferences. While working for the Libraries, Kelly has additionally taught a considerable amount of courses at the University of North Texas and at the Texas Woman's University. She has been a consistent facilitator and consultant in the library and information services field as well as been active in state, university, and library organizations in a variety of positions.
