The James M. Linebarger collection contains the personal papers, poetry, essays, lecture notes, poetry reviews, books, and letters of UNT emeritus professor of English, and poet-in-residence James Morris Linebarger.
Collection Historical Note
James Morris Linebarger was born July 6th, 1934 in Abilene, TX. Dr. Linebarger attended Columbia University on a football scholarship, and graduated with his B.A and M.A in 1952 and 1957 respectively. Dr. Linebarger served as assistant professor at Georgia Tech University from 1957-1962. Dr. Linebarger began teaching at UNT after completing his Ph.D. program Emory University in 1963. Dr. Linebarger published, co-authored, and reviewed numerous publications as Jim Linebarger. Dr. Linebarger’s career at UNT consisted of: Instructor, Assistant Professor, 1970-, Poet-in-Residence, 1989-, and Professor of English, 1992-2008.
