Arrangement: The Damron Dennis Papers are arranged into two series: Library Committee Business and Library Administrative Work.  Her committee work is divided into folders by committee, including the Special Collections Panel, a shelf arrangement committee, Texas and U.N. papers committee and the Collection Development Committee. The Library Administrative Work Series includes copies of all library forms used in 1972, information on the open house for the grand opening of Willis Library, and various memos and information on staff awards.

Abstract

Damron Dennis worked at the North Texas State University (NTSU, currently the University of North Texas) Library from at least 1971 to 1983, where she worked as a librarian in various areas, including Research, Interlibrary Loan, and Government Documents. The collection contains minutes and memos of her committee work, in addition to memos and library forms dealing with her administrative work.

Scope and Contents of the Materials

The Damron Dennis Papers contain committee meeting minutes, handouts, and memos from her work on North Texas State University (NTSU, currently the University of North Texas) library committees dealing with government documents, the placement of shelves in the brand new Willis Library, the development of new collection development policies, and the setting up of the Special Collections areas of archives and rare books. Her collection also includes documents dealing with library administrative duties, such as photocopies of all library forms in use in 1972, memos about staff awards, and details about the open house for the brand new Willis Library.

Collection Historical Note

Damron Stanton Dennis was born November 2, 1918 in Grand Saline, Texas where her father, George Damron, was a superintendent of schools and a county judge.  She lived in Montana until 1960, when she moved to Denton, Texas and graduated with a Master's Degree in Library Science from North Texas State University (now the University of North Texas). She resided in Denton until 2003, working as a librarian at North Texas State University (NTSU), Texas Woman's University, and Southwestern Medical School. At NTSU she worked from at least 1971 to 1983 as a Research Librarian, Interlibrary Loan librarian, and with the Government Documents Department. In 2003 she moved to Houston and then to Colorado Springs, where she died June 9, 2005.
