Abstract

The Guadalupe “Lupe” Arriola Political Campaign Papers is comprised of materials from Arriola’s bid for City Representative for Fort Worth, Texas  in 2009.  Arriola was the first Latina to run for City Council.  Arriola was an owner of two McDonald franchises in Ft. Worth.

Scope and Contents of the Materials

This collection contains documentation of the political campaign of Guadalupe “Lupe” Arriola for the Ft. Worth City Council in 2009.  It includes campaign materials, campaign walk data, campaign maps, correspondence, financial records, receipts, news articles, a photograph, and books on political campaigns.  It also includes two over-sized campaign posters that documents her list of supporters.

The collection includes Tarrant County Precinct information designated by a four digit number, followed by A, B or C, as well as the number of households per Precinct, designated as a numeral followed by the letters "HH" (households).  There are a total of 22 Precincts inventoried in this collection.

Biographical Note

Guadalupe "Lupe" Arriola grew up in Los Angeles and received a bachelors degree in political science from California State University, Los Angeles, and a master's in public administration from the University of Southern California.  She and her husband moved to Fort Worth in 1989 when they bought their first McDonald's franchise. At the time she ran her campaign for Fort Worth City Council, District 4 against Danny Scarth and Jeffrey Harris, the Arriola's owned three McDonald franchises. An April 15, 2009 article in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram states contributors to her campaign included Rep. Lon Burnam of Fort Worth and neigborhood activists such as Eva Bonilla, as well as friends from Los Angeles.
