This collection contains photographs and correspondence from McClurkan's General Merchandise Store in Wichita Falls, Texas. Also includes a large scrapbook that has various newspaper clippings, advertisements, letters, etc. related to the store.
Collection Historical Note
The McClurkan's General Merchandise Store in Wichita Falls, TX opened in 1907. Donor Ikard Smith's father opened and managed this location. Smith would later become president and senior chairman of the board. They remained there until McClurkan's merger with the Dunlap Company of Fort Worth in 1982, when the store was renamed Dunlaps. In 2007, the Dunlap Company closed all its stores.
