Abstract
Scope and Contents of the Materials
The papers (1826-1937) of Orrin Sylvester Levis (1835-1922) and Charles Levis and the Levis family concerning gold mining in Colorado and the farm implements and millinery businesses in the Midwest. O. S. Levis married Clarissa "Clara" Bascom Sackrider Remington (1836-1912)after the death of Clara's first husband, Seth Pierrepont Remington (1830-1880). The collection has information on life in New York and a land transaction in Mexico.The collection contains account books, agreements, bills, bonds, books, certificates, checks, court notifications, deeds, a diary, leases, correspondence, mortgages, clippings, promotional material, receipts, and photographs. The clippings contain information about Frederic Remington, son of Clara Sacrider Remington Levis. There is also a set of quilts made by Clara S. R. Levis that her son, Frederick Remington, decorated with small paintings of flowers and insects. There are letters from Ann Monroe Ryan to Charlotte Monroe Levis (1866-1903). The correspondence contains letters from William Levis, Isaac Wilson, Orson Rice, George Monroe, Sr., and Ellen Levis Wagner to O. S. Levis. O. S. Levis wrote Charlotte Monroe Levis and Ann Monroe Ryan to Charlotte Monroe Levis. Correspondence also includes letters from George Monroe, Jr., Caroline Monroe, Don Monroe, Everett Bird, Sarah Davis, Charles Levis, Willis Levis, E. J. Monroe Levis, and Adelaide Levis. The diary was written by Theodosia Hutchinson. There are also photographs and artifacts.Access Information
