Edward J. Coomes, Jr. was a member of the History faculty at the University of North Texas from 1963-2000. He was named a Professor Emeritus after he retired. He served in the Navy from 1948 until 1952. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Rockhurst Jesuit College and his master’s and doctoral degrees at the University of Kansas. As a professor at UNT, he taught medieval, Greek, Roman, and German history. He received the J. H. Shelton Excellence in Teaching Award, he was named Top Prof, and a student Association Honor Professor.
