Records of the UNT Foundation, an organization designed to raise money and provide support for UNT.

Scope and Contents of the Materials

The University of North Texas Foundation Records (1924-1982) contains numerous documents, letters, and newspaper clippings from scholarships and grants from the UNT Foundation, formerly known as the NTSU Educational Foundation, Inc. The NTSU Board of Regents established the foundation in 1972 to receive gift funds to be utilized for scholarships and grants for NTSU students. Correspondence with numerous distinguished UNT alumni, faculty, and local citizens is contained within the collection.

Collection Historical Note

The NTSU Board of Regents established the foundation in 1972 to receive gift funds to be utilized for scholarships and grants for NTSU students. Scholarship and award recipients include retired College of Music Jazz Studies professor Jim Riggs, U.S. Congressman Ray Roberts, and numerous NTSU students.

      Documents, memos, and newspaper clippings related to the Florence I. Scoular Scholarship Fund. Dr. Scoular joined the NTSC faculty in 1938, and retired as the first dean of the College of Home Economics in 1968. In 1946 NTSC named the newly built Scoular Hall in her honor.

      This folder contains documents, letters, and newspaper clippings from the Criddle Scholarship Fund. The Criddle Scholarship was commissioned in 1969 by Corsicana native E.D. "Dick" Criddle Jr. in memory of his parents, both of whom served on faculty at NTSU.

James "Jim" Riggs served as a Professor in the Jazz Studies and Performance Divisions at the UNT College of Music, and directed the award winning Two O'Clock Lab Band. Professor Riggs joined the North Texas faculty in 1973 and retired in 2008.
