Scope and Contents of the Materials

The Texas Human Rights Foundation Collection contains documents and correspondence dated 1976-2001 pertaining to THRF’s black tie dinner, the board of directors, the board of trustees, corporate, finances, litigation, partner organizations, and publications. The board of directors and trustee series include documents and correspondence pertaining to meetings, finances, and THRF’s annual Schwab Awards. The financial document series includes financial statements, budgets, and documents about fundraising. The partner organizations included in this collection are the AIDS Equity League, Another Way Texas Shares, the Care Foundation, Dallas Gay and Lesbian Alliance, Design Industries Foundations for AIDS, Leadership Lambda, Razzle Dazzle Dallas, and Texas Equal Access to Justice.

Collection Historical Note

The Texas Human Rights Foundation, Inc. (THRF), formerly known as the Houston Human Rights Defense Foundation, Inc. is a nonprofit foundation established on June 6, 1978. THRF’s purpose is to end discrimination based on sexual orientation or HIV status through litigation, education, and legal assistance. THRF sponsors and supports litigation, publishes booklets and newsletters, and holds events that inform Texans of their legal rights. THRF also has hotlines and an attorney referral program in order to inform and supply legal counsel to those in need.
