Scope and Contents of the Materials

The collection consists of 26 boxes of materials concerned with Miss Heyer's career, research, publications, and personal hobbies, as well as historical materials related to the development of the UNT Music Library.

Biographical Note

Music librarian, author, educator. Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, Anna Harriet Heyer studied at the Texas Christian University, the University of Illinois, Columbia, and the University of Michigan. In 1941 she established what would become one of the largest music libraries in the country at North Texas State Teacher's College (now the University of North Texas). She taught music librarianship at North Texas and served as a library consultant for TCU. Historical Sets, Collected Editions, and Monuments of Music: a Guide to their Contents an "indispensable research tool" is her most well-known publication. Her awards include honorary lifetime membership to the American Library Association and the Music Library Association Citation for lifetime achievement. (Grove Music Online)
