Scope and Contents of the Materials

This collection contains the photographs, contact sheets and negatives for the University of North Texas Yearbook (Aerie) from 1985-2004.

Collection Historical Note

The Aerie was the fourth title of the yearbook published by the students of North Texas.  It was had that title from 1982 to 2007, while the institution was called North Texas State University, and University of North Texas.

Biographical Note

The first yearbook was published in 1906 and named the Cottontail. The book held photographs and lists of names of students, faculty members, clubs, and athletic teams. The publication’s name was used for only one year. It was replaced with The Yucca in 1907.  President Bruce called for the name change and asked for suggestions for the yearbook’s new name.  President Bruce was the one to enter the name “Yucca,” which would be voted on by a committee formed to select the winning name.

The Yucca discontinued after its 1974 issue. It was followed by a short run of a senior yearbook, Wings. The regular publication of the yearbook would resume in 1982, with the publication of the Aerie. The Aerie would cease publication after the 2007 volume.
