Abstract

Documents (e-mails, memos, reports, and meeting minutes) that concern the insurance reserves that resulted from the university moving away from self insurance and the University Planning Council. The University Planning Council studied issues of campus growth, faculty and staff positions and compensation, and made recommendations to the president. These files are from Finance and Administration - Human Resources Office.

Scope and Contents of the Materials

The papers cover the time period from 1995to 1998. The papers document the growth of campus, faculty and staff salaries, insurance reserves and longevity bonuses.  The bulk of the collection is concerned with the work of the University Planning Council.

Biographical Note

There was no personnel office on the UNT campus from its founding until the Presidency of John J. Kamerick (1968-1970).  Before Kamerick’s time the President was involved in the hiring of each faculty member and many staff positions.  The creation of a Personnel Office, in 1969, allowed the recruitment non-faculty positions  and  provided a fair compensation structure for all employees. At its creation, this office oversaw equal opportunity and compliance review for the U. S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare. In 1990, the name was changed to Human Resources Department. In 2011, some of the services that were performed by the UNT Human Resources Department were transferred to the UNT System Business Service Center.  The services that moved included Benefits, Records, Time and Labor, HRIS, job postings, offer letters, and some pre and post-employment processes.
