Scope and Contents of the MaterialsThis collection contains the materials of Carlos Banda, who has been involved with the OLTA (Oak Lawn Tennis Association) since the late 1970s or early 1980s. These materials document his association with the group as well as his connections with the Texas Open, Gay Games (Team Dallas), Atlanta Team Tennis Association, GLTA (The Gay and Lesbian Tennis Alliance), Human Rights Campaign and Yours Truly, a business based in Fort Worth on Sundance Square. Ads placed in publications such as the Advocate and TWIT to either cover tennis events or to promote business interests, such as Yours Truly, are grouped with this collection. Carlos Banda's efforts in many of the LGBT tennis organizations are reflected in the awards and acknowledgements present in the collection. His competitive involvements, as well as fundraising to raise awareness on AIDS issues and civil rights, such as Serving for Equality, are also documented with these materials. The full range of items contains papers, photographs, publications (magazines, books and newsletters), audiovisual materials and artifacts related to Carlos Banda's various activities within these groups.
