545 0 _aHendricks served as an Army colonel during World War II and received a Bronze Star while under the command of General George S. Patton.
He earned his bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Texas at Austin. He was a teacher in the Fort Worth and Austin school districts, a teaching fellow at the University of Texas at Austin and a teaching assistant at the University of California at Berkeley. He became a member of the UNT English Department in 1951. He retired in 1978. He was then named a Professor Emeritus.
Hendricks published the books[i] Bad Man of the West; Mirrors, Mice and Moustaches; and Rhymes and Railroad Tracks[/i]. He was president of the Texas Folklore Society, councilor of the American Folklore Society, and a member of Phi Eta Sigma, Phi Delta Kappa, Phi Beta Kappa and Kappa Sigma.
