Smallwood, Jr.  was a faculty member of the Department of History from 1964 to 2000.  He specialized in economic history.  He was also interested in conservation and the environment.  He contributed to or wrote [i]Texas Country[/i] and [i]Water in the West.[/i] As a professor he taught classes on the New South and environmental awareness. Smallwood lived in Japan from 1960 – 1964.  In 1970 he led a group of Denton, Texas citizens to Japan for the “Japan World Exposition.” J. B.
