Name: Montoya, Delilah (1955-)

Historical Note: Delilah Montoya was born in Fort Worth, Texas in 1955. Raised in the Midwest, she currently lives in New Mexico. She graduated from Metropolitan Technical College, Omaha in 1978 and then studied at University of New Mexico, receiving a BA in photography in 1984, a MA in 1990, and a MFA in 1994. Montoya often incorporates printmaking, painting, and drawing techniques into her photography and photographic installations. Her projects often investigate cultural phenomena, challenging viewers’ assumptions. Montoya explores the mestizo/a experience of the Southwest and borderlands, the multiplicity of Aztec Mexican, Spanish, Native American, and Anglo-American traditions, customs, and values throughout her work. Her goals as an educator are to promote projects that encourage self-invention.
